The way to your horse in 8 steps

The points set out below outline the complete process.

1. Find your dream horse

We assist our clients by advising them to take their time and to try out different horses before deciding on a particular horse. We are not expecting the purchaser to make a rash decision because it is undoubtedly a longer process, both financially and emotionally. You have every right to make a carefully considered decision.

2. Acquiring a horse after your visit or on the strength of a video

A personal visit is certainly advantageous. A visit, i.e. personal contact provides you with more information than a web page, no matter how informative it is. Whatever decision you make, we will of course understand if you do not have the time to visit us in person.

If this is the case, we would recommend that you contact someone who has bought a horse from us. This will enable you to obtain an objective opinion in advance and will provide you with further information about us, our service and various processes.

If you are visiting us in person, we will be pleased to meet you from the airport (Cologne or Düsseldorf) and we will make a hotel reservation for you, if necessary. If you wish to hire a car, we will be pleased to supply you with all necessary information.

3. Veterinary examinations

In the knowledge that our horses will leave our stables again at a later date, all our horses undergo a basic examination upon acquisition. To this end, Sporting Horses has developed a standard procedure for acquiring horses which meets the most exacting requirements.

The examination:
- Clinical examination
- Trotting on hard and soft ground
- Flexibility tests
- Heart, lungs, eyes
- X-rays (if necessary, we will send these on CDs to anywhere in the world)

Our vets are aware of our requirements as well as those of our clients, both at home and abroad.

4. Blood testing (not necessary within Europe)

Horses must be tested for certain diseases. The Dr. Böse laboratory carries out our blood analyses - http://www.labor-boese.de.

For geldings: approximately 5 working days
For mares: approximately 2 weeks
For stallions: approximately 4 weeks

A final examination by the official vet is necessary to check or confirm whether the horse is fit and healthy and therefore able to travel.

5. Insurance

We recommend that you insure your horse as soon as you acquire it. We will be happy to carry out this formality on your behalf if you wish. For our USA- and Canada-based clients, we work with an American insurance company.

6. Scheduling of transport

After receiving the (negative) results of blood tests, we will choose an appropriate date. We work together with Peden Bloodstock who are a trustworthy partner thanks to their long experience. Professional care guarantees your horse a stress-free journey. www.peden-bloodstock.de

7. Arrival

If the destination country is America, horses must remain in quarantine for 3 days where they are retested for previous diseases. Geldings are permitted to travel to their final destination after these 3 days. Mares and stallions must subsequently go to a CEM quarantine point. An isolation or quarantine period is required for other destinations (e.g. Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, South Africa).

8. Transport to stables

We aim for customer contentment and satisfaction. This happens when you dedicate yourself wholeheartedly to your work. Therefore, our key objective is to seek out good quality, healthy horses who are full of personality. You will find them with us.
